Colonel (Ret) Garry D. Patterson a native Texan was born in Fort Worth, Texas and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education and Biology from Texas A&M University. Later, he graduated with a Master's Degree in Secondary Education from the University of North Texas. Colonel Patterson was commissioned as a second lieutenant, Armor, from the Reserve Officer Training Corps of Texas A&M University and recognized as a Distinguished Military Graduate. Colonel Patterson is a graduate of the following military courses: Armor Officer Basic Course, Armor Officer Advanced Course, Quartermaster Officer Qualification Course, Command and General Staff College, the Associate Logistics Executive Development Course, and a graduate of the United States Army War College.

Colonel Patterson retired from active duty on July 31, 2003 after a distinguished career of more than thirty years of active and reserve military service with the Texas Army National Guard. His military assignments included duty assignments as Platoon Leader, Company Executive Officer and Company Commander for armor units; Battalion S4, Brigade S4, Brigade S3, Assistant Chief of Staff for Logistics (G4), Executive Officer at Main Support Battalion, Assistant Division Materiel Management Officer, Division Main Support Battalion Commander, Assistant Chief of Staff for Operations (G3), Chief of Staff 49th Armored Division, Chief of Staff Multi-National Division (North) Stabilization Force 7 (Operation Joint Forge, Bosnia-Herzegovina), Chief of Staff, 71st Troop Command, and Director of Facilities and Engineering for the Texas Army National Guard.

Colonel Patterson’s military awards include the Legion of Merit with oak leaf cluster, Meritorious Service Medal, with four oak leaf clusters; Army Commendation Medal with one oak leaf cluster; Army Achievement Medal, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal with seven oak leaf clusters; National Defense Service Medal; Humanitarian Service Medal; Armed Forces Reserve Medal with Hour Glass and M-Device, Army Service Ribbon, Army Reserve Components Overseas Training Ribbon, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, NATO medal, Lone Star Distinguished Service Medal and various state awards from Texas. Colonel Patterson is also a recipient of the 2004 National Guard Association of Texas Minuteman Award for distinguished service, the Silver Medallion of the Order of St. George from the United States Armor Association, and the deFleury Medal from the United States Army Engineer Association.

Since his retirement from the military, Colonel Patterson has served in executive management and business development positions in support of three Austin, Texas defense contractors, 21st Century Technologies, Inc., J3S, Inc. and J&J Maintenance, Inc. Colonel Patterson is currently the President/CEO of GDP Consulting and works as an independent consultant providing his operations and training expertise to aid in the training of Human Terrain Teams (HTT) at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas in support of Department of Defense (DOD) contracts of DevelopMental Labs, Inc., of Austin, Texas. Patterson resides with his wife Sharon in Round Rock, Texas.
